The names corresponding to the 13 Lunar Year Full Moons are what I have come to call them. I give credit to all those before me for figuring out what seems to work and for passing it on to me. They can be called by many other names in respect to your particular path or tradition. (more moon information)
In the US, the November full moon is more commonly known as the Beaver Moon. There are two interpretations of this ones origins. Some believe it came from the time of year to set beaver traps before swamps and streams froze, to add to a supply of warm winter furs. Another suggests that the name came from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It can also referred to as the Frosty Moon.
For myself, I prefer the name of Spirit Moon - A Time for Power. For those who follow the path of the Wheel of the Year, for me, this moon is the coming to the end, and to the beginning. It is the return to the spiral path on my endless journey of renewal and rebirth which is embarked upon by all earth spirits seeking to find their way through life. For me, my show schedule stops, everything gets organized and accounted for in the studio after a hectic year, and I begin to settle in for the winter. To contemplate, to decide what worked - or didn't, to give thanks for all the blessings I did receive, and to start to plan for the return of the light and the next growing season. To me, it truly is a time of power. I see life in the natural world fade and wither to finally enter that deep sleep, but know that inside all growing things, the spark of life waits to spring forth again.
In 2016, we will get to see the LARGEST and BRIGHTEST Full Moon we have seen in the last 64 years. (read about the science of it) Plus, we won’t see another one like it again until 2034. Prior to the moon turning full, we have been residing in Scorpio. It's an emotional sign, generally full of drama, intensity of emotions and uncertainty. Yes, that really sums up the past week here in the U.S.
The good news? Yes, there is good news! As the moon turns full we will move into Taurus for a bit. This happy transit will help us to stay balanced, grounded and focused on what we truly want and need to continue moving forward. Inner peace will settle in and we can all give a little sigh and take a breath.
